THE BARN Café Tal München is a compact, no-frills coffee shop that serves as a quiet spot for serious coffee lovers in the heart of Munich. Located on Tal street, this location carries over the meticulous coffee craft synonymous with the original Berlin cafés, making it easy for locals and visitors craving quality espresso-based drinks to find a reliable spot downtown.

The café’s size is notably small, which means inside seating can feel a bit tight, especially during busy hours. The interior is functional rather than spacious or loungey, geared mostly toward quick visits or takeaway rather than lingering for long. Outside tables line the sidewalk but overlook a rather unremarkable street view—as one might expect in a central city block currently marked by nearby construction. Still, on mild days, the outdoor seating offers a change of pace for those wanting to grab a coffee and watch the city bustle by.

Regulars here appreciate that the coffee quality rarely disappoints, with classics like cappuccinos and affogatos standing out. The attention to detail in the brewing process is evident, attracting both locals and travelers who seek a serious coffee fix rather than casual café fare. The staff are noted for their friendly and patient service even in this cozy setting, handling the space’s limitations gracefully.

This spot works especially well for anyone who might be coming from nearby office buildings or wandering the old town seeking a pick-me-up. Early mornings or mid-afternoon times are preferable to avoid crowding. In sum, THE BARN Tal functions as a dependable pitstop for well-crafted coffee, ideal for those who prioritize quality and are okay with a more minimalist atmosphere and limited seating options.

Like always The Barn delivered excellent service and coffee. It’s great to see locations in Munich!

A brilliant little cafe in München, highly recommended - reminded us of coffee back in Melbourne so we were very, very pleased to have such a great cuppa here attended to by lovely staff. Highly recommended!

I think I was a victim of hype and expectations, because I’ve heard so many good things about this place. This particular branch is sooo tiny, I think they would have been better off having a small kiosk, than trying to fit in all the tables here. The inner space is claustrophobic and the outer space is hardly better - a boring street with a view on a construction side. The tables outside (where we sat) are very small and can hardly fit any dishes and/or drinks. To eat your cake you have to hunch over like a goblin. Speaking of dishes - very few options. But on the bright side, the cheesecake is amazing, the best thing and the saving grace of the Barn. The buggiest disappointment was the coffee - the filtered coffee was watered down and barely had any taste. The black coffee I had wad pretty good, but not amazing. If the beans I bought will be as mediocre as this, I will deeply regret leaving tips beforehand (and btw, the service was normal, dk, if that deserves a 5% tip).

The best coffee in Germany! Tried it at Berlin the first time and then saw it at Munich. My go to coffee shop. The iced americano, cappuccino and iced matcha are great

Not sure what other reviews are but the service by Dianna and Igor is top notch, having to work in a small space with some challenging customers (I saw), still managing is great! Good coffee and attentive!

I’ve been a huge fan of the barn, both coffee and its cafes, and was so glad to find it in Munich. I had to go fora drip coffee to really get the flavour profiles of their vast bean variety. Mind you, the drip (V60) coffee option is quite pricey but you also get more than a cups worth of drink, so if you want to splurge and are a coffee fan, I’d recommend that over milk drinks to really get the best of the product selection here. They will have multiple bean offerings on the spot so you can try whatever mostly suits your liking. The pastry menu is not so varied but it was nice nevertheless. And finally, you can buy beans at the shop and they have so many options I continue to love the barn.

I have known this brand for a long time, and was delighted to find that it was still open on Sunday, the second day I arrived in Munich. It was a rainy day and this little café was packed. All the staff there spoke fluent English and were very friendly. My college was happy to find a girl speaking Chinese so that he could order on his own. The long black surprised me with a flavor that's got a lively sourness, sweetness and light bitterness balance, held by a rich body. I bought two bags of coffee beans, one from the first time I was there, and the barista who seemed to have expert filter coffee skills recommended a Honduras natural for me, and the second was recommended by the Chinese-speaking girl because I told her that I wanted the one with a taste of blueberry. It turned out to be really great. I also visited the bigger shop near the Tal shop in the next week, but I found myself preferring this one and thought the service was better. I'd really love to go to this café again when I visit Munich next time. The friendliness of the Chinese-speaking girl and the Greek guy left me a great impression.
